Charalambos S. Siganos, MD, PhD

Title: Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, Medical School, University of Crete

Subspecialty: Cornea & External Eye Disease, Corneal Transplantation, Cataract & Refractive Surgery.

Graduated from Medical School, University of Cairo (MB,BCh -English Instruction), and holder of post graduate degrees of MsC in Ophthalmology (Cairo University) and PhD (Medical School, University of Crete). Completed 3 year Fellowship training in Medical & Surgical Cornea, under the supervision of Prof. Joseph Frucht-Pery, at the Ophthalmology Department of the Hadassah University Hospital of Jerusalem.

Since 1998 he is a staff member of the Department of Ophthalmology (Chairman: Prof. Ioannis Pallikaris) and in charge of the Cornea & Transplantation Unit. During the periods 1999-2003 and 2012-2013 he was also in charge of the Refractive Surgery Unit. He performed, for the first time in Greece, Limbal stem cell transplantation Surgery in an alkali corneal injury case (1997). Ever since with the evolution of new techniques including amniotic membrane transplantation the Cornea Service is a referral center for severe ocular surface disease cases. Dr. Siganos was awarded for his work in the Department, among others, by the past President of the Republic Mr. Kostis Stefanopoulos (2003) as well as by the”Medicin du Monde” Organization (2004). He particioated in numerous Greek and International presentations and publications, and he speaks and writes English, Spanish, Arabic and Hebrew.
